NORTHERN announces an OEM partnership
with Software Shelf, a Silicon Valley-based developer and distributor
of best-of-breed Microsoft® utilities. Under terms of the agreement,
Software Shelf will market, sell and support SysAdmin Toolbox
Plus™, a suite of system admin tools based on Northern’s Site
Utilities suite.

Majority of infected machines hit
within 10 minutes
A just-completed study into the Slammer worm that hit the
Internet a week ago has concluded what many people already
suspected: Slammer represented a significant milestone in
the evolution of worms and was by far the fastest spreading
worm yet seen.

SYMANTEC: FEWER ATTACKS, MORE OPPORTUNITIES
Customers hit by 30 attacks a week
last year
Attacks on company networks decreased over the past six months,
but the number of reported software vulnerabilities exploded
during that time, creating the possibility of more serious Internet-borne
mischief in the future, Symantec said in a report issued Monday.

Project links 2 million PC resources
IBM along with two partners announced on Wednesday a global
research effort that will focus on developing new drugs to
combat the smallpox virus post infection. The project will
employ a huge computing grid designed to let up to 2 million
users contribute their idle computing resources to the effort.
