Northern Storage Suite offers full compatibility with EMC's VNX™ Series

Northern Storage Suite and EMC VNX™ combine to deliver transparency, centralized data management, simplicity, efficiency and performance in enterprise  environments

FRAMINGHAM, MA– June 13, 2011 – NORTHERN, global providers of Storage Resource Management (SRM) solutions, today announces that its flagship SRM (storage resource management) platform is fully compatible with EMC® VNX®, a series of storage solutions consolidating EMC CLARiiON and EMC Celerra into a single, powerful family of unified storage arrays for datacenter-class systems. Northern Storage Suite extends SRM functionality to VNX-based storage systems, providing IT administrators with enterprise-wide visibility, greater flexibility in allocating storage and controlling data usage, and improving overall system performance.

Whether unstructured data resides on a VNX or Celerra device, Northern Storage Suite gives administrators have the ability to identify and reclaim wasted capacity, control user behavior, making users responsible for the data they store, and accurately forecasting storage needs at individual device and enterprise levels.

"We began collaborating with EMC on providing tailored functionality for the Celerra platform, which facilitated a smooth roll out of a true enterprise-grade solution for the VNX series2, says Lee Taylor, Northern’s Product Manager, Enterprise Solutions. "Enterprise environments are complex and are typically built around several different platforms. To meet the challenge, our suite seamlessly integrates with Celerra-based devices, and with the VNX series, providing customers with EMC's unmatched ability to deliver enterprise-level performance and functionality with Northern's ' admin-friendly' storage management across demanding, heterogeneous environments. Our ultimate goal is allowing administrators to effect more proactive storage policies via a much enhanced ability to control and forecast usage, helping turn an organization's data into actionable business 'intelligence,' a real competitive edge in today's data-driven global environment."

Northern recently received the coveted “Challenger” designation in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for the SRM market, outstripping other SRM vendors in its completeness of vision, its ability to execute, and its ability to identify and resolve customer pain points. Northern’s flagship product, Northern Storage Suite, is a software solution that enables organizations to constrain data growth, align the value of data with the cost of storage, and extend the life of storage infrastructure, making efficient storage usage a part of business culture. This is achieved through five areas of functionality: award-winning quotas, comprehensive reporting & trending, internal billing, automation & migration, and an end-user portal that encourages self-management. Northern Storage Suite provides multi-platform support, seamlessly integrating with NAS devices and SANs; there are also specific versions of the suite for EMC Celerra, Isilon and NetApp NAS.
